We take pride in protecting our community!
West Valley is always recruiting for new members. We take applications
all year long and do interviews and reviews in June and start new firefighters
in July. If you are interesting in joining please read over the questions
below and the Introduction Manual and then contact Chief Jerry Shepherd at
458-3717.
Questions to Consider:
1. Are you able to meet the requirements of the Fire District?
2. What is your reason for wanting to join the West Helena
Valley Fire District?
3. What hours are you normally available to answer
emergency calls? Are you able to leave work if necessary?
4. Do you have past experience in the fire service or a
related field?
5. Do you have any special skills, schooling or hobbies
that are of benefit to the District?
6. Have you had any medical training? If so what is it?
7. What do you have to offer the West Valley Fire District?
8. What is your family’s reaction to you wanting to join
the Fire District?
9. Would there be any problems leaving home at dinner time,
during time off, holidays or the middle of the night?
10. Do you understand that West Valley is an active
District that asks you to participate in a lot of training activities which can
come on week nights or weekends?
11. Do you understand that as a member of the fire district
you may be called to an incident scene where you may witness pain, suffering or
even death?
Steps to Join West Valley
- Contact the Fire Chief
- Fill out and return application
- Complete the rookie interview
- Complete rookie training
- Complete one year probation period
- Be voted by the rest of the members to full member
status
