![]() | "The Big Green Chair" is a tapestry that was in my mind and heart for many years, even before the weaving of the Heritage Series began. It is of my Father, myself, and two of my five siblings in a big rocker for one of our frequent storytimes. Reading and books have always been important to me...as a child, as a mother, and now as a grandmother, children and reading just go together. The images in the border and throughout the tapestry are of characters from familiar stories from my childhood. They were as real to me as were my brothers and sisters. The big green chair was in my family home until after I married and left home. It was a place of comfort. The stories we read together were outlets for imagination and adventure. I still believe this scene has more to offer family life than the currently more familiar scene of children (with or without parents) in front of a television screen or a computer monitor.
