Ardith
Karlsen began painting in 1976 and her original training was in oils,
which provided a strong foundation for her later works. Once she became
comfortable with the techniques, she developed an interest in acrylics,
which was her medium of choice for many years. Recently she has
discovered a love of pastels and has enjoyed using them to produce all
of her current works.

After
spending over 30 years living in Kalispell, Montana it was only
natural that her artwork would be inspired by Glacier National Park,
only an hour’s drive away. She has done many renderings of
Lake McDonald and Little Goose Island, two of the Park’s
recognizable attractions, along with many paintings including the
natural elements found in the Park, such as bear grass and fireweed.
While her first love is painting landscapes, she studies various
techniques and takes classes in her efforts to increase her skills and
continually improve, the latest class being portraits.

Ardith
was born in Warroad, Minnesota to Kenneth and Rose Karlsen. She
has lived most of her life in the rocky mountain states of Washington,
Colorado, Alaska and Montana. Inspired by serene sunsets and
majestically rugged mountains, and having an intense appreciation of
color and its power to evoke emotion, she enjoys setting her
impressions of nature’s beauty on canvas.
