Lillan’s Last Dance

She danced from her airline crate, surveyed her domain, and promptly peed on the floor. Only then did she dance over to Susan and leap into her arms. This was our Amberlove’s Desert Girl, Lillan, “The Little One” in Swedish.  Too small for some judges, fawned over by others, she ruled our hearts and the household.

Lillan danced to her championship, floating across the ring at the end of the lead; she danced her way to multiple agility titles, receiving encore requests to attend the Big Dance at Eukanuba.

Desert Girl mothered a litter of eleven plus a thousand, fostering every puppy and puppy look-alike she saw, teaching them all to dance. She kept the peace in the pack of six, putting Niall on his back more than once despite being half his size.

A Dark Cloud slowed Lillan’s dance, beginning with a car crash only a few miles from home after a trip to Eukanuba, followed by surgery for bloat and torsion. Soon after, she began to dance lethargically and all too soon was taken by hemangiosarcoma.

Lillan danced one last time at the 2010 National with Susan and the sire of her puppies, Niall. They floated one last time around the ring, and Lillan didn’t seem to mind being carried in a small box; this was Lillan’s last dance. She is not just waiting at the bridge, she is dancing on it!
