Text Box: The chapter name comes from a French-Canadian trapper, Jacques LaRamie, who was one of the first Europeans in this area in the early 1800s. He disappeared in the Laramie Mountains in the late 1810s. The Laramie River, a mountain range, and city also take their name from him.

Text Box: Laramie is home to the University of Wyoming, the only four-year university in the state, founded in 1886, while Wyoming was still a territory. Students now number around 13,000.

The DAR was founded in 1890 and now has 168,000 members throughout our country and abroad. It is a volunteer women’s service organization whose objectives are historic preservation, patriotism, and education.

Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. Visit the national DAR website for more information regarding membership eligibility.

The DAR Library is one of the world’s premier genealogical research centers. Among NSDAR records are thousands of names of Revolutionary War patriots that have been proven by members. To learn if your ancestral patriot has been proven in DAR, click here .
